Serenity Funeral Home Obituary: Alfred Joseph Mario Grant

Alfred Joseph Mario Grant, lovingly known as Al to his friends and family, passed away peacefully on February 'date' at his home in Lakeville, surrounded by the love of his family after a long battle with cancer. He was 76 years old.

Born on October 3, 1946, in the Burin Cottage Hospital, Al grew up in Lawn, Newfoundland, as the third child of seventeen to Alfred Grant and Annie (Ryan) Grant. His childhood memories were filled with love, laughter, and adventure, which he cherished throughout his life.

Al was a devoted husband to his wife of 56 years, Ellen, whom he met on a blind date on Valentine's Day. Together, they welcomed two children, Danny Grant (Natalie Morin) of Montreal and Tonya Grant (Jeff Connors) of Halifax.

As a proud member of the Royal Canadian Air Force, Al served his country for almost 30 years, living across Canada and traveling worldwide. He was involved in NATO missions and worked on various HMCS ships, earning him the Sharp Guard Medal. Al retired as a Master Warrant Officer at CFB Greenwood.

In addition to his military career, Al owned and operated Grant Electronics for many years, showcasing his entrepreneurial spirit. His passion for education led him to receive his teaching certificate from Prince of Wales College, where he briefly taught school in Angels Cove on the Cape Shore before pursuing his career in the Avionics trade.

Al's love for family was evident in the way he raised his children, teaching them valuable lessons such as the importance of reading, sports, travel, education, music, and appreciating nature. He was incredibly proud of the adults they grew up to become and cherished every moment spent with them.

His warm and engaging personality made him a beloved figure among his ten brothers and six sisters, with whom he shared countless memories. Al also had a lifelong best friend in Phonse Manning.

Throughout his life, Al embodied the values of kindness, love, and dedication. His passing leaves behind a legacy of cherished moments, unforgettable stories, and a family who will deeply miss him.
